This is a great example of why the review section is useless and I stopped contributing. I find most of the anger comes from folks who tend to defend the 94-95 years as well as the post Jerry years. The review that led to this beauty gave the Branford Izod center show 1 star. (I haven't listened to it so I have no opinion) The reviewer makes well written comments as to why he thinks it was sub par and the harshest thing in his review was "looks like you guys are drinking the Koolaid."

Well, God forbid someone write a well thought out review giving the boys a thumbs down because this is what came after,

New Rules:
a) people like .... below should be banned from this site and placed on an iv drip of prozac.

b) seniority goes to the folks that were at the show (I was) in these reviews, THEN PEOPLE THAT HAVE ACTUALLY LISTENED TO IT.

c) while no one expects blind adulation, we also do not expect (or want) tossers like this weighing in on shows they were neither at or listened to.

d) if you want to be a tool go onto craig's list and rant and rave to your hearts content otherwise STFU.

e) you gave greensboro a 4 and this a 1? UVA a 3? dude you are on the wrong site you need help with a dsm 4 manual for oppositional defiance disorder.

PEOPLE THERE IS A REASON FOR ALL OF THESE HIGH MARKS OF THIS SHOW BECAUSE IT WAS FUN AND REALLY WELL PLAYED - I WENT TO MOST OF THESE SHOWS IN THE NE AND THIS HAD SOME REALLY GREAT STUFF PLAYED.

cant understand why youre up in arms. i personally think, with the exception of may 77 and some nye shows, the grateful dead died with pigpen. i wouldnt pay a dime to see the dead. i wouldnt go for free either. dso is just as good for way cheaper. in fact ive seen local bands for free just as good. warren is great in the mule. hes only with te dead cuz they wouldnt sell many tix if it was joe shmoe on guitar. they arent sellin many tix as it is. wanna make rules... maybe if you were at that show, you can make a judgement instead of jus listenin to it here. newbies are keepin these guys goin not you oldies.

Totally respect that. But nowhere in your post did you tell me to STFU. I think that's really where I was going with it.

What's the point of having a 1 star rating if people are afraid to use it? I mean, if we look at it mathematically, there should be just as many 1 star shows as 5 star shows, (with most shows receiving 2,3, and 4 stars).

When I read reviews for shows, I want to see a variety of opinions, good and bad. They will inform my listening experience, not dictate it. I am curious to see what different people really think, and I don't want everybody to give good reviews because they feel they need to self-censor for some strange reason. I mean, is this North Korea, or a community that values free expression? If someone thinks a particular show sucks, and can say why semi-intelligently, then they should go ahead and do it. You should never be personally offended because a reviewer criticizes a show that means a lot to you...If you really like the show so much, and are so confident in your feelings and opinions, you wouldn't be so troubled by negative reviews.

And also, it doesn't matter whatsoever if a reviewer was at the show or not...We're reviewing the recordings, not the whole bloody concert experience! Anyway, music is a matter of taste, so people's views are going to vary widely. I'll ultimately be the one listening and forming my opinions, so bring on the reviews!

Yep; as long as there is information in them, good or bad is besides the point. We have way to many that really provide nothing of substance because they are 1) personal and/or 2) over written to the point of crypsis (talk about Smoking Jacket time, NC, I can't compete with many of the reviewers) in which the $64 words obscure any chance of understanding (which I am being gracious about supposing).

Hey, no offense, but I only got as far as "Seniority goes to " before I realized what I was reading, and just enjoyed the rest of the crazy ride ...

Seriously though, anyone who thinks that what the archive needs is some dogma, just clearly isn't paying attention. It's not even worth you getting upset about - just laugh at the clown, dude. All he really did was make himself look like ass.

The one thing in common with every show critiqued is that it was a five star great performance if you were there. People fail to believe that if they were at a show and invested any karma at all, that it was a less than stellar show.

There seems to be a huge gap between the opinions of the experienced geezers and those making an investment to ride the new bus. Had this forum been here in 1972, 1979 and again in 1990, the same thing would have happened.

If I were to assume this was a brand new band, listened and commented objectively, I'd have to say overall it was a bit plodding and lacked real fire, but certainly wasn't a cookie cutter show like many other bands put on. Lot's of good quality music, extended sets, and good jamming.

In the real world, for me, it was always about Jerry, so my subjective opinions would vary dramatically from the above.

Here is a link to what lobster 12 is writing about;

I haven't listened yet, but one star is a really low rating.

The Archive here is quite an anomaly. It's one of the few places where you actually catch more flies with vinegar than with honey.

Check this out. It will put a dance in your step.
Thanks jglynn.

Thanks for the support lobster, and I hope you do continue to write reviews. I have found your reviews to be fair and informative.
If people want to wig out because you don't like something, that's their problem, just ignore them and keep being you!

I find it odd that people are reacting so vehemently to "the Dead" and any critique of them. To me, their emotional reaction is the answer. They want this to be something it isn't. In a few years, we'll see how many people are listening to these shows.

I did enjoy last nights 2nd set (this morning). Sure, no Jerry, but they are tryin and it will be an honor to go and see the boys, this may well be their last tour.
(still don't enjoy Warrens vocal sound-with The Dead though)
